Program
Children enrolled in the after-school program at Howard Drive Elementary are offered a variety of activities. These activities include: homework assistance, indoor and outdoor games, arts and crafts and computer lab time.
Staff
The program managers supervise group activity leaders previously screened by Miami-Dade County Public Schools who work directly with your children in small groups. All activity leaders receive a minimum of 30 hours of Department of Children and Families training.
Snacks
Each day a snack will be provided for your child after the end of the regular school day. We ask that parents notify staff of any food allergies upon registration.
Insurance
Upon registering your child, it is mandatory to obtain student accident insurance. No child may attend before or after-school care programs without this supplemental coverage. This is supplemental insurance and DOES NOT take the place of family or individual medical insurance coverage.
After Care Community School Classes
At Howard Drive Elementary we’ve got lots of new programs that will engage your child and provide them with a fun after school activity. Sign up online through the Parent Portal in FOCUS to register.
Yoga -Our Yoga class will increase your child’s flexibility, improve their focus, build a positive mindset and improve study skills. Participants will need to bring a yoga mat and dress in flexible clothing.
Mondays 3:30-4:30pm, $12 per class or $300 for 25 classes from 9/19/22 thru 5/1/23.
Cheerleading – This program is open to all students who have school spirit and love to dance and shout! Mondays & Wednesdays PK-1st Grade 2:15-3:15pm / 2nd-5th Grade 3:30-4:30pm. $12 per class or $300 for 25 classes. Offered for two seasons: Fall: 9/19/22 thru 1/9/23 & Spring: 1/30/23 thru 5/3/23.
Engineering / STEM – Taught using the Tynker and VEX IQ. This fun and interactive class teaches how to use code blocks which is a great way to practice higher order thinking skills. Tuesdays & Thursdays 2nd-5th Grade 3:30-4:30pm, $12 per class or $300 for 25 classes. Offered for two seasons: Fall: 9/20/22 thru 12/22/22 & Spring: 1/31/23 thru 5/2/23.
Piano – Students will be instructed by a professional piano teacher for 1 hour, twice a week. The group will participate in two performance programs during the school year. .

Fees
2023-2024 Increased Fees for Before/After School Care and Summer Programs
Fees must be paid in advance based on the payment schedule. Fees MUST be paid through FOCUS. There is no partial payment for partial use of services. NO CHILD WILL BE ALLOWED TO BEGIN A SERVICE PERIOD FOR WHICH PAYMENT HAS NOT BEEN MADE.
